Alysha Colangeli is a multi-disciplinary eco-artist.
Her work explores the concepts of individual and collective identities, cultivating connections to place, memory, and the beauty found in everyday life. Alysha’s artistic practice encompasses weaving, natural dyeing, and pigment making, honed over the past decade and deeply influenced by her time in the high desert of New Mexico. Trained as a fine artist in drawing, painting, and printmaking at the School of Visual Arts in New York, Alysha's work examines the interwoven tapestry of cultures and the profound significance of handmade processes.
Nurtured within a family that valued homemade traditions, Alysha developed a deep reverence for crafting her own mediums from scratch. As a first-generation American inspired by her ancestral lineage of Italian weavers and dyers, her work merges traditional methods with contemporary aesthetics, reflecting her personal journey and the exploration of her identity. Using organic materials and sustainable practices, she creates art that tells stories of personal and collective histories.
Alysha’s work is a testament to the enduring power of craft as an art form, connecting the ancient with modern, celebrating the beauty in simplicity and reminding us of our intrinsic link to the natural world.
Alysha Colangeli received a BFA from the School of Visual Arts. Her work and other collaborations have been shown in the U.S. and Canada and have been featured in: The Huffington Post, Inhabitat NYC, The Cut, New York Times Style, NPR, The Telegraph, AZ Central, LA Times and the Santa Fe New Mexican.
